Video tutorial

Watch the Traktor Pro integration tutorial

This video shows the full Mixed In Key 11 and Traktor Pro 4 workflow, including how to analyze BPM and Beat Grid in Traktor, close Traktor before opening Mixed In Key, set Tag Options, enable Traktor Cue Point export, run Check Consistency, and show the correct Traktor columns.

Workflow overview

How the Mixed In Key + Traktor workflow works

The Traktor workflow works best when Traktor prepares the BPM and Beat Grid first. Mixed In Key then uses that beatgrid information to place Cue Points correctly.

After Mixed In Key analyzes your tracks and writes the selected information, Traktor needs to run Check Consistency so it can update the library with the new tag information and Cue Points.

Traktor prepares:

  • BPM
  • Beat Grid
  • Timing information for Cue Point alignment

Mixed In Key prepares:

  • Key
  • Energy Level
  • Cue Points
  • Title, artist, and comment exports
  • Camelot Key notation
Important: Close Traktor completely before opening Mixed In Key. If Traktor is still open, your exported tags or Cue Points may not update correctly.
Traktor setup

Add music to Traktor and analyze BPM and Beat Grid

Start by adding your songs to Traktor. Then select the tracks in your Traktor collection and open the Analyze options.

Choose Special, then select BPM and Set Beat Grid. This analyzes each track for tempo and beatgrid information, which Mixed In Key uses to place Cue Points correctly.

1

Add your music to Traktor

Add the songs, folders, or playlists you want to prepare into your Traktor collection.

2

Select the tracks and open Analyze

Select the tracks you want to prepare, right-click, and choose the Traktor Analyze option.

3

Choose Special, BPM, and Set Beat Grid

In the Analyze options, choose Special, then enable BPM and Set Beat Grid.

Why this matters: Mixed In Key uses the Traktor beatgrid information to place Cue Points in the right positions.
Required step

Close Traktor completely before opening Mixed In Key

After Traktor finishes BPM and Beat Grid analysis, close Traktor completely. This is an important step in the Traktor workflow.

Closing Traktor allows Mixed In Key to write the selected tag information and Cue Point data into the Traktor collection workflow without Traktor holding the collection open in the background.

Do not skip this: Close Traktor before opening Mixed In Key. If Traktor stays open, your tags or Cue Points may not export correctly.
Mixed In Key settings

Set up Mixed In Key for Traktor

After closing Traktor, open Mixed In Key 11 and choose your Tag Options and DJ Software settings.

Choose your Tag Options

In Mixed In Key, go to Settings → Tag Options. Choose how you want results to appear in Traktor. A useful setup is to write Key and Energy Level together in the Comments field.

Write to comments

You can overwrite the comments or write the information in front of existing comments, depending on how you want your Traktor library to display Mixed In Key results.

Turn on Initial Key tag

Enable the Initial Key tag option so Mixed In Key writes the detected Key into a tag field that Traktor can use.

Enable Traktor in DJ Software settings

In the DJ Software settings, turn on Traktor export. Enable the export options for Key, title, artist, comments, and Cue Points based on your workflow.

Cue Point choice: If you want to keep existing Cue Points in your Traktor collection, switch off the overwrite option. If you want Mixed In Key Cue Points to replace existing Cue Points, leave overwrite enabled.
Mixed In Key analysis

Add your songs to Mixed In Key

Once your Mixed In Key settings are ready, add the same songs to Mixed In Key and let the analysis complete.

Mixed In Key will analyze the tracks and prepare the selected information for Traktor, including Key, Energy Level, comments, and Cue Points if Cue Point export is enabled.

Mixed In Key can prepare:

  • Key
  • Energy Level
  • Cue Points
  • Comments
  • Title and artist exports

Use the results to:

  • Find harmonically compatible songs
  • Organize playlists by energy
  • Prepare useful Cue Points
  • Build stronger Traktor playlists

Library columns

Show the Key Text and Comments columns in Traktor

To see Mixed In Key results clearly in Traktor, right-click the column headers in your Traktor collection and enable the correct columns.

Mixed In Key writes Key information into the Key Text column. Traktor’s regular Key column is reserved for Traktor’s own Key results, so it may not show the Mixed In Key result you expect.

Enable Key Text

Use the Key Text column to view Mixed In Key Key results in Traktor.

Enable Comments

Use the Comments column to see the Key and Energy Level information you selected in Mixed In Key Tag Options.

Optional: hide Traktor Key

You can hide the regular Traktor Key column if you only want to focus on Mixed In Key results, or leave both columns visible if you want to compare.

Confirm the results

After Check Consistency, check Key Text and Comments to confirm that Traktor is showing the Mixed In Key analysis results.

Important: Use Key Text for Mixed In Key results. The regular Traktor Key column is for Traktor’s own Key results.
Cue Points

Check Mixed In Key Cue Points in Traktor

After Check Consistency, load a track into a Traktor deck and check the Cue Points. If the workflow was completed correctly, your Mixed In Key Cue Points should appear and align with the beatgrid.

Cue Points help you jump to useful parts of each track, such as intros, breakdowns, drops, and mix-out sections.

Why Cue Points align

Cue Points align correctly when Traktor analyzes BPM and Set Beat Grid before the tracks are processed by Mixed In Key.

If Cue Points do not appear

Check that Traktor Cue Point export is enabled in Mixed In Key and that Check Consistency was run after analysis.
