Workspaces
Workspaces help you organize song sections like verses and choruses, syncing with other Captain Plugins for smooth playback.
Add a Workspace
Click + to add more workspace sections.
Preset Tab
The preset tab gives you a selection of rhythm and timing presets, this is a great way to get started by finding something close to what you would like, or that fits with the rhythm of your chords and bassline.
Layout Tab
Split your melody into sections (A and B) for a call-and-response style. Use the dropdown to reorder, resize, or change octaves quickly without dragging notes.
Shape Tab
Shape allows you to control the amount of melodic steps between notes and the size of leaps.
Rhythm Tab
Adjust note density, length, triplets, and rests to shape your melody’s rhythm. Use Update for random variations or copy settings from A to B for faster workflow.
First Note
The First note tab allows you to decide which scale degree section A or B should begin with. Scale degrees are the various notes that make up the Key and Scale, starting with the root note.
Lanes
Control which scale degrees your melody uses by adjusting their chances, redirecting notes as needed.
Melody Preset
Choose from melody presets to kickstart your ideas or match your chords and bassline. Use the reload button for variations and adjust the starting point or length as needed.
Idea Box
Select ‘Create Idea’ and press + to auto-fill the Idea Box with notes.
Import MIDI
You can now import MIDI files into Captain Melody—just click Import MIDI and select your file.
Load your presets
Press Load Preset to select a preset and choose which elements to load: chords, rhythm, sound, or all.
Move
Drag notes to adjust their position on the canvas.
Pencil
Draw individual notes directly onto the canvas.
Brush
Quickly paint rows of notes using the selected Snap resolution.
Magic Record
Magic Record allows you to use your computer keyboard, or MIDI keyboard, to play and record notes in real-time.
Ghost Notes
Ghost notes show chord notes on the canvas, helping you align your bassline with the chords’ timing, rhythm, and melody. Chord names are displayed at the bottom for reference.

Organize your melody into A and B sections for a call-and-response structure.

Visualize the chord progression as a reference for aligning your melody.
Velocity
Adjust the intensity of each note to add dynamics and a human touch.
